WELCOME HOME KITS

All those little costs of moving into a new apartment can really add up. Your congregation can help welcome a Family Promise guest family home by providing a household care kit when they move out of Family Promise. Kits could include a broom, a mop, sponges and brushes, a variety of cleaners, detergent, toilet paper, trash bags, paper towels, and other home essentials. Please contact Ashley Frankie at (540)-444-7374 or afrankie@familypromiseroanoke.org  to help.

HOUSES FOR CHANGE:
AN ARTS & CRAFTS PROJECT TO HELP HOMELESS FAMILIES

Houses for Change is an educational crafts project for kids to raise awareness of homelessness and raise funds to help homeless families. It is a national campaign that answers the question, “What can I do to help?”

Using magic markers, crayons, collage material, stickers and imagination, kids decorate a plain box to look like a house, then take the box home and in the following weeks or months fill the box with loose change. At a selected date, for example Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Easter or the end of the school year, families bring their filled boxes back to the participating organization for a communal donation to Family Promise. Teaching guides are available.

Houses for Change has universal appeal. It has been adopted by schools, congregations, homeless organizations, the United Way, and the YMCA to engage their youth in a meaningful service project. The decorated boxes can be used at community service days and birthday parties as piggy banks; at churches as Advent, Lenten and collection boxes; and at synagogues as tzedakah boxes, or as part of a Vacation Bible School project. cleaningGirlFAMILY CENTER SPRUCE-UP

Every March a group of Presbyterian youth descend upon Family Promise for an afternoon to deep clean and sanitize the Family Center. They call it Mystery Mission Madness. Your congregation can organize a similar mission. Many hands make light work! If interested, please contact Ashley Frankie at (540)-444-7374 or afrankie@familypromiseroanoke.org.
